Advanced Technologies:
Key Benefits:
- Tissue-sparing precision
- Reduced side effects
- Outpatient treatment
- Pain and symptom control
Advanced Technologies We Use
We employ state-of-the-art radiation technologies to deliver precise, effective treatment while minimizing impact on healthy tissues.
IMRT (Intensity Modulated Radiation Therapy)
IMRT allows us to modulate (change) the intensity of the radiation beam. This means we can "paint" the radiation dose to match the exact shape of the tumor, curving the dose around sensitive organs like the spinal cord or salivary glands.
IGRT (Image-Guided Radiation Therapy)
Tumors can move slightly day-to-day (due to breathing or bladder filling). IGRT involves taking a CT scan right on the treatment table before the beam turns on. This ensures we are hitting the target accurately every single day.
Stereotactic Radiotherapy (SRS/SRT)
For small brain tumors or lung lesions, we use Stereotactic Radiotherapy. This delivers a very high, ablative dose in just 1–5 sessions with extreme precision, often acting as "surgery without a knife."
Your Radiation Journey: Step-by-Step
A clear, structured approach ensures optimal treatment outcomes while keeping you informed and comfortable throughout the process.
CT Simulation
You will undergo a special CT scan in the treatment position. We may make a custom mask (for head & neck) or a body mold to keep you still and comfortable.
Contouring & Planning
Dr. Pant and the physics team map out the tumor and healthy organs on a computer system. This "virtual planning" takes a few days to ensure the safest path for the beams.
Quality Assurance (QA)
Before treating you, the plan is tested on a "phantom" (dummy) to verify the machine delivers exactly what was planned.
Daily Treatment
You come to the center daily (usually Mon–Fri). The actual beam on-time is only 2–5 minutes. It is painless, invisible, and you are not radioactive afterward.
Weekly Review
Dr. Pant reviews you once a week during treatment to manage any side effects like skin redness or fatigue.
Specialized Radiation Procedures
Beyond standard radiation, we offer advanced specialized techniques for complex cases and specific cancer types.
Advanced radiation technology for precision treatment
VMAT (Volumetric Modulated Arc Therapy)
A faster version of IMRT where the machine rotates around you, delivering treatment in less than 2 minutes. Ideal for patients who need shorter treatment times.
Brachytherapy Planning
For Cervical Cancer, Dr. Pant specializes in planning internal radiation (brachytherapy) where the source is placed directly inside or near the tumor for maximum effect.
Palliative Radiation
Short courses (1–10 sessions) designed specifically to relieve pain from bone metastases or stop bleeding, improving quality of life instantly.
Safety & Managing Side Effects
Many patients worry about radiation burns. With modern skin-sparing techniques, severe reactions are rare. Our focus is on managing side effects proactively.
We provide specific creams and instructions to keep your skin healthy. Recommendations include:
- Use mild, fragrance-free soap
- Apply prescribed creams 2-3 times daily
- Avoid sun exposure on treated areas
- Wear loose, soft clothing
Mild tiredness is common; we advise on diet and rest patterns:
- Maintain a balanced diet with adequate protein
- Take short naps instead of long sleeps
- Gentle walking or stretching daily
- Schedule treatment in the morning when energy levels are higher
Our primary goal is preserving function with advanced techniques:
- Throat Cancer: Saving the voice box and swallowing function
- Brain Tumors: Protecting memory and cognitive areas
- Pelvic Cancers: Sparing bowel and bladder function
- Breast Cancer: Minimizing impact on heart and lungs
Post-treatment care and monitoring:
- You are NOT radioactive after external beam radiation
- Side effects typically peak 1-2 weeks after treatment ends
- Most side effects resolve within 4-6 weeks
- Regular follow-up appointments to monitor recovery
